About

My work is inspired by nature and how we interact with and perceive our surroundings. I’m interested in evoking moods, capturing a moment in time or history with color, light and of course, texture. I want the work to tell a story to the viewer giving them just enough to connect the dots - to set a mood with fragments and symbols that evoke a place or time. I work with landscapes and figurative work including tapestry, watercolor, encaustic, textiles, embroidery, and mixed media.
Other sources of inspiration come from my personal experiences, memories, photographs, drawings, daydreaming, and readings. One of my favorite books is The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard. According to Bachelard, it isn't the historical accuracy that is significant but the act of daydreaming which allows us to relive and recreate our memories so that these dwelling places of the past remain with us for all time. As an artist, it is not only the act of daydreaming but also the process of making that solidifies my thoughts, dreams, and memories. I transcend one place to another thru making.

We comfort ourselves by reliving memories of protection. Memories of the outside world will never have the same tonality as those of home. By recalling these memories, we add to our store of dreams; we are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is perhaps nothing but an expression of a poetry that was lost.
